Symrise at gat 2016: Guaranteed Safety with Gasodor® S-Free

Instead of harmful sulfur compounds, Symrise’s Gasodor® S-Free natural gas odorant contains ethyl acrylate and methyl acrylate as odor-producing substances. In order to ensure the safe handling of the gas odorant in the workplace and by consumers, Symrise allowed both substances to be reevaluated according to the REACH regulation, which has now led to a stricter classification of both materials.

The most important point: The environmentally friendly odorant is still considered harmless both in the workplace and for consumers. The safety regulations that apply for handling Gasodor® S-Free guarantee that the odorant is handled safely. If gas is released, individuals are exposed for just a few minutes to only one five-hundredth of the full concentration, which itself is considered harmless for long-term exposure.

REACH has now additionally categorized both substances in Category 3 as having acute toxicity for inhalation exposure and chronic aquatic toxicity. This is why Gasodor® S-Free will be marked with the GHS 02 and GHS 06 hazard pictograms from now on.

You can find out more about Gasodor® S-Free at the gat 2016 conference at stand D6.5 in hall 3.
